Epic Games recently won a court battle against Google, with the jury declaring the tech giant a monopoly. Following this, Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, has indicated that Apple is next in their legal crosshairs. Sweeney posted on Twitter, “Thanks! On to Cupertino,” after the ruling against Google.
Sweeney also mentioned that an appeal is in the works for its case against Apple, with plans to present the appeal to the Supreme Court for consideration.
While the battle with Google is ongoing, Apple is also facing legal action from Epic Games. In 2020, Epic Games circumvented Apple’s payment system for in-app purchases, leading to the removal of Fortnite from the App Store. This move led to a lawsuit from Epic Games, claiming that Apple is a monopoly engaging in anti-competitive practices.
With Google planning to appeal the recent verdict and the legal battle against Apple ongoing, it seems that Epic Games is prepared for a lengthy legal process. However, the outcome of these cases will have significant implications, especially considering the enormous revenue generated from the App Store ecosystem.
