Exciting News: Fido Customers Receiving 5G Signals! – Phones Canada

Phones Canada is excited to share that Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers, appears to have activated 5G for some customers. Reports from iPhone in Canada readers indicate that users are now seeing the 5G indicator on their iPhones as of Sunday evening.

One Fido customer in South Vancouver, B.C., shared with us that their iPhone is displaying a 5G signal in the status bar. Screenshots provided to iPhone in Canada clearly show “Fido” and “5G” on the device.

Upon conducting a quick 5G speed test on Fido’s network, which runs on the Rogers infrastructure, speeds ranged from 16-18 Mbps download at this particular location. The cellular settings on the iPhone showed “5G Auto” under Fido for Voice & Data.

What does this development signify? It could indicate that Fido is gearing up to offer faster 5G download speeds soon. Alternatively, the company might be transitioning customers to its 5G network while initially capping speeds at 4G LTE levels, similar to what Telus-owned Public Mobile currently does.

While Public Mobile and Freedom Mobile already provide 5G services, Koodo (also owned by Telus) discontinued offering 5G to new customers earlier this year. Virgin Plus includes 5G plans in its offerings as well. Although Fido has not been actively promoting 5G services until now, it appears that changes may be on the horizon.

We have reached out to Rogers for further insights and will update this story accordingly. If you have also noticed a 5G signal from Fido on your device, please share your location with us in the comments below.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor this developing story.

– Thanks, Gladys
