Exciting News: Samsung Galaxy Devices to Introduce Vertical Scrolling App Drawer in 2021!

Samsung fans who have been eagerly awaiting a vertically scrolling app drawer will be pleased to hear that Samsung is bringing back this feature through its Good Lock customization suite. Good news for those who missed this option after it was previously removed!

The Good Lock “Home Up” module in the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 update will include the return of vertical scrolling, as confirmed by a Samsung Community moderator. While we don’t have an exact release date for the update yet, it is expected to arrive later this year.

For those not familiar with it, Samsung Good Lock is a robust customization suite specifically designed for Samsung Galaxy devices and accessible through the Galaxy Store. It consists of various modules, each focusing on specific customization areas like the lock screen, notification panel, clock styles, and more. Think of it as having the flexibility of a custom ROM without the complexity.

If all goes as planned, we might see the vertical app drawer functionality back on Good Lock with the One UI 6.1.1 update by late summer. Speculation suggests that this update could coincide with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldable phones at an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in July.

As someone who has been using the Galaxy S24 Ultra, I can attest to how challenging it can be to adjust to a horizontal app drawer coming from other Android devices like Google Pixel or OnePlus. Muscle memory often leads me to swipe up instead of sideways! The return of vertical scrolling will surely make navigation smoother and more intuitive for many users.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that everything stays on track for One UI 6.1.1 – here’s hoping for a seamless transition back to vertical scrolling!
