Exciting Update: AI Email Summaries Coming Soon to Gmail on Android

Google is testing a new feature for Gmail for Android users called Summarize that uses its AI model, Gemini, to generate summaries of long emails. This feature, currently available as a premium option for Gmail for Workspace users on the web, could soon be coming to the mobile app. With just a tap of a button, users can condense lengthy emails into key points, saving time and helping them stay organized.

Recently spotted by Android code expert AssembleDebug in the code of the Gmail app, version 2024.04.21.626860299 has made significant progress with the Summarize feature. The “Summarize this email” button now works to summarize emails in a more efficient way.

Powered by Gemini, Google’s advanced AI model, the Summarize feature has various capabilities including data analysis and understanding natural language instructions. Currently available for Google One AI Premium plan subscribers on the web version of Gmail, it remains to be seen if this will be required for Android users as well.

As this feature is still in development, there is no exact release date yet. However, given the progress made so far, it shouldn’t be too long before it’s available on a stable version of the Gmail app. This integration of AI-powered email summaries has the potential to improve email processing efficiency and we hope it will be accessible to all users without any additional cost.
