OnePlus is gearing up to impress once again with its display quality. The CEO has teased that the OnePlus 12 panel will set new industry benchmarks and may even break some decade-old records at DisplayMate’s mobile display test lab.
The OnePlus 12 display, called the Oriental Display, is expected to raise the bar in terms of smoothness, eye protection, display, brightness, rain touch, and more. There’s curiosity about what “rain touch” means, with speculation that it could refer to the ability to register fingers when the screen is wet, potentially a helpful feature for users trying to unlock their phones in the rain.
According to the OnePlus CEO, the upcoming panel has achieved the best screen standards in the world and is worth the wait. The company’s umbrella organization, BBK, which also includes Oppo and Vivo, has a track record of introducing record-breaking phone displays, such as those on the Oppo Find X2 Pro, the OnePlus 8 Pro, and the current Find X6 Pro flagship from Oppo.
It’s been suggested that the OnePlus 12 display might outperform the panel on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a device that Samsung is reportedly equipping with an impressive brightness factor. The CEO emphasized the OnePlus 12’s focus on eye protection, claiming that it has surpassed industry standards and is ushering in a new era of mobile phone eye protection.
Interestingly, OnePlus has revealed that the LTPO panel for the OnePlus 12 will be supplied by BOE, a departure from the company’s usual partner Samsung. It remains to be seen if this is due to a strategic shift or if Samsung is reserving its best OLED displays for its own Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The OnePlus 12 is set to be announced on December 4, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra will follow on January 17. It will be interesting to see how the two devices compare in terms of display performance.
