Google is reportedly working on a new AI-based feature for the Google Photos app that could prove to be quite useful. This feature is designed for people who tend to take photos of bills and invoices but end up forgetting about them, leading to missed payment deadlines and late fees. The new feature is said to help users avoid late charges by reminding them about outstanding bills that may be stored in the Google Photos app.
According to reports, the latest version of the Google Photos app includes a Calendar permission that enables users to link their photos of bills and invoices to their Google Calendar. This allows users to set reminders for bill payments directly from the Google Photos app. The feature seems to be hidden behind a flag and is not visible to all users yet, but it is said to use Machine Learning to detect photos with text or dates, and determine if they are invoices.
Once enabled, users will be able to select a photo of an invoice and find an option labeled “Set Reminder,” which, when tapped on, will prompt them to give the photo a name, sync it with their Google Calendar account, select a date and time for the reminder, and automatically include a link to the photo at the bottom of the pop-up. The reminders are said to appear instantly on Google Calendar, helping users avoid late payments and late fees.
This feature could potentially be a game-changer for those who struggle with bill payments and forget to make timely payments. If released, it could serve as a convenient way to manage and organize bill payment reminders directly from the Google Photos app, ultimately helping users save money by avoiding late fees.
