In recent months, the iPhone has been on a roller coaster ride in China. After experiencing a surge in shipments earlier this year, the latest reports from Canalys indicate that the iPhone has dropped out of the top five smartphone manufacturers in the country for the first time in years. Let’s take a closer look at the current landscape of the Chinese smartphone market:
– Vivo emerged as the top smartphone manufacturer in China during the second quarter, shipping 13.1 million handsets and capturing 19% of the market.
– Oppo, another BBK Electronics brand, followed closely behind with 11.3 million units shipped, holding a 16% market share.
– Honor, a former Huawei sub-unit, secured third place with 10.7 million phones delivered and a 15% market share.
– Huawei experienced a significant increase in shipments during Q2, thanks to its Pura 70 flagship line, shipping 10.6 million phones and claiming a 15% market share.
– Xiaomi rounded out the top five with 10 million handsets delivered and a 14% market share.
Overall, second-quarter smartphone shipments in China reached 70.5 million units, marking a 10% increase from the same period last year.
According to Canalys Senior Analyst Toby Zhu:
“The growth in the second quarter signals a gradual market normalization. Three key trends will impact the market landscape: Huawei’s upcoming launch of HarmonyOS Next, local players investing in AI infrastructure, and intense domestic competition driving overseas expansion.”
As Chinese brands continue to innovate and expand internationally, we can expect to see further developments shaping the future of the Chinese smartphone market. Stay tuned for more updates on Phones Canada’s blog!
