Meta to soon enable users to disconnect their Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger accounts

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced that starting this month, Instagram and Facebook users in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland will have additional choices on how they manage their accounts across Meta’s social apps. This move comes in response to the requirements of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will come into effect in March 2024.

Users will soon be notified about their ability to choose whether they would like to share information between apps in case they have multiple accounts. For example, users who linked their Instagram and Facebook accounts will be able to unlink and manage them separately, or they may choose to continue to connect their accounts through Meta’s Accounts Center so that their info will be used across both their accounts.

Additionally, Messenger users will have the option to continue using the app with their Facebook accounts or create a standalone new Messenger account. Those who choose the latter will still have access to the app’s core services, including private messaging and chat, voice, and video calling.

Furthermore, Meta has revealed that Facebook game players can choose between a gaming experience that uses their Facebook information or one without that. While the former offers a full gaming experience, including multiplayer games, in-game purchases, and personalized game suggestions, the latter will only allow users to play some single-player games.

These changes are meant to comply with the regulations set forth by the DMA and provide users with more control over their accounts and the information shared across Meta’s social apps.
