Apple has released iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 this week, and the updates are now available for installation. To install the updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the directions.
The star of the update is the new Stolen Device Protection feature. After installing the update, you can enable this feature by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode on your iPhone. Once enabled, Face ID or Touch ID will be required to perform certain actions when your device is away from your home or office. Certain sensitive operations such as changing the passcode, Face ID, or Apple ID password will require Security Delay.
This new feature delays such sensitive operations for one hour to give victims of an iPhone or iPad theft time to notice their device is missing and inform Apple. After an hour, Face ID or Touch ID will still be required to make the change.
In addition to Stolen Device Protection, the update also adds the collaborative playlist feature for Apple Music, allowing friends to join a playlist and add, remove, and change the order of songs. Emoji reactions can be shared for any track in a collaborative playlist.
Other new features include the ability to use AirPlay to stream content to the TV in certain hotels, as well as the ability to see AppleCare and Warranty coverage for all devices that share the same Apple ID in Settings. On iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series models, Crash Detection has been optimized.
