Older Nest cameras can now be used with the Google Home app

Phones Canada is excited to announce that Google has made a significant update to its Home app, enhancing the user experience for those with old Nest cameras. The tech giant has recently added support for the original Nest camera models, bringing them one step closer to offering a complete Home app experience.

Initially launched in 2015, the first-generation Nest Cam Indoor can now be integrated into the Public Preview of the Google Home app. While this feature is still in the testing phase and not yet available to all users, you have the option to join the Public Preview if you would like to try it out today.

Once you have joined the Public Preview, a prompt will appear in the Home app, guiding you through the process of transferring your old Nest camera. It is important to note that this process may take a few weeks since Google is slowly adding support for more Nest Cam Indoor devices. However, the wait will be worth it for those eager to utilize the new features and manage their old Nest cameras seamlessly alongside other devices.

Among the exciting features offered by the updated Home app are camera history and Favorites tab. With these additions, you can easily revisit past camera footage and access your most frequently used features with just a tap.

Google has stated that all eligible Nest Cam Indoor users will receive an email notification once access to the enhanced Home app is rolled out to all users. In the meantime, it is worth mentioning that no changes have been made to the Nest app, so users can continue to enjoy its functionalities without any interruptions.

Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of this significant improvement to the Google Home app. We at Phones Canada can’t wait to see how this update transforms the usage of old Nest cameras and enhances the overall user experience.
