Passkeys are beginning to gain traction as a viable alternative to traditional passwords, with big tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google already offering passwordless logins. X (formerly known as Twitter) has now introduced passkeys for iOS users in the US, with plans for expansion to other countries and Android devices in the future.
With X’s passkey feature, iOS users can enjoy a more secure and convenient way to log into their accounts using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. Creating a passkey is simple – users can log in to their X account on the iOS app, go to Your account > Settings and privacy > Security and account access > Security > Additional password protection, and select Passkey. Once the setup is complete, users can opt for a passkey instead of a password to log into their X account.
The passkey feature uses a public key and a private key generated by the user’s device, adding an extra layer of security to the login process. It also allows for seamless login across all devices signed into the same iCloud account.
X has not disclosed a timeline for the expansion of the passkey feature to Android or other countries, so iOS users in the US can take advantage of this convenient and secure login option.
In addition to the passkey feature, X recently secured its 15th money transmitter license in the US, signaling its continued expansion and evolution as a versatile and multifunctional app.
