Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has recently announced the recruitment of Mustafa Suleyman and Karén Simonyan to strengthen the company’s AI initiatives, forming a new entity called Microsoft AI.

Suleyman, now the Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, will play a crucial role in the senior leadership team, reporting directly to Nadella. With a successful background as a founder of DeepMind and Inflection, his visionary leadership makes him a valuable asset for Microsoft’s future AI research and product development efforts.

Joining Suleyman is Karén Simonyan, taking on the position of Chief Scientist within Microsoft AI. Known for his contributions to groundbreaking AI advancements like AlphaZero, Simonyan brings valuable expertise to the organization.

This addition also brings a team of accomplished AI engineers, researchers, and innovators from Inflection to Microsoft, enhancing the company’s capabilities in AI-driven innovation.

As part of the restructuring, teams led by Mikhail Parakhin (including Copilot, Bing, and Edge) as well as Misha Bilenko and the GenAI team will now report to Suleyman. Kevin Scott will continue as Chief Technology Officer and EVP of AI overseeing overall AI strategy and cross-company coordination, while Rajesh Jha remains in charge of Experiences & Devices.

Nadella emphasized that Microsoft aims to utilize its AI infrastructure and foundational models to drive innovation and develop impactful products and services. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to advancing in the field of artificial intelligence.
