Rogers Experiences 600% Surge in Cell Traffic During Niagara Falls Eclipse • Phones Canada Insights

The total solar eclipse today was a momentous event, and it seems like everyone survived, including the Rogers wireless network. As expected, there was a significant increase in wireless network traffic during the eclipse. Rogers reported that they saw more than 600% of the network traffic they usually handle in Niagara Falls, one of the prime locations in the path of totality.

Rogers’ network team worked tirelessly to ensure that Canadians stayed connected to share this unforgettable moment. They set up portable mobile towers and mobile trucks in key communities to increase capacity and optimize sites to handle the surge in traffic. Special event configurations were also put in place to adjust coverage and traffic management at specific cell sites.

Bell was also prepared for the high traffic on their networks during the solar eclipse. Both carriers successfully managed the temporary surge in traffic without any issues, thanks to their proactive measures.

It’s fascinating to see how people got creative with filming footage of the total solar eclipse. Some used unique methods like using a Tesla glass roof as an ND filter to capture the phenomenon.

According to the Niagara Falls Review, this region hasn’t witnessed a total solar eclipse since 1925, and the next one isn’t expected until 2144. The experience of witnessing such an event is truly awe-inspiring and unforgettable for those who were lucky enough to be there.

We are reaching out to Telus, Bell, and Quebecor for more information on how their networks handled during the eclipse. Stay tuned for updates on this story as we gather more data from other carriers.
