Samsung Collaborates with Students to Enhance Intelligence of Future Galaxy Phones

Samsung is teaming up with students from Seoul National University to bring even smarter AI capabilities to its upcoming Galaxy phones. The tech giant will rely on these students to help enhance the AI features on the Galaxy S25 line and A-series mid-range devices.

A recent report from KoreaTimes highlights Samsung’s collaboration with Seoul National University to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The focus will be on improving on-device AI in Galaxy mobile devices, making them more intuitive and efficient for users.

As part of this partnership, Samsung has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Seoul National University to establish a joint AI research center. Over the next three years, researchers from Samsung’s device experience division will work closely with engineering students from the university on various AI projects.

The collaboration will specifically target the development of on-device AI, which enables AI functions to operate within a device without an internet connection. Additionally, they will focus on multi-modal AI, which processes different types of data simultaneously, such as text, images, voice, and video.

Samsung has already integrated several AI technologies into its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 series. These include features like Circle to Search, real-time translation, and Photo Assist, enhancing user experience and convenience.

Seoul National University has been offering an interdisciplinary AI program since 2020 at its graduate school of engineering to nurture future AI professionals. Through this partnership with Samsung, they aim to secure essential technologies in the rapidly evolving AI sector and enhance their technological competitiveness.

By recruiting top master’s and doctoral students involved in the research project, Samsung plans to strengthen its pool of AI professionals. Cheun Kyung-whoon, chief technology officer of Samsung Electronics’ device experience division and head of Samsung Research, expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to boost Samsung’s technological competitiveness in the AI sector.

With this exciting collaboration between Samsung and Seoul National University, we can expect even smarter and more advanced AI capabilities in future Galaxy phones. Stay tuned for more updates on how this partnership will shape the future of mobile technology!
