Samsung takes over AI torch from Google: One UI 6.1 update may bring Pixel 8’s AI wallpapers to Galaxy smartphones

Google recently released the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are equipped with various AI features, including the ability to create personalized AI wallpapers. Now, Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update, based on Android 14, is set to introduce a range of new features, with a focus on AI.

Leaked images from @BennettBuhner on X reveal that Samsung is incorporating Google’s generative AI wallpapers for its Galaxy phones in the upcoming One UI 6.1 update. The screenshots show that users can choose a theme and receive a prompt, similar to Google’s approach with Pixel 8 series. The main difference lies in the user interface, as Google’s AI wallpaper features a full-screen preview, while Samsung’s display is more condensed.

It seems like Google is passing on the AI torch to Samsung, as One UI 6.1 also includes weather effects on the lock screen, a photo editor similar to Google’s Magic Editor, “Auto Format” for notes, and more. Additionally, the Galaxy S24 series is expected to offer a range of AI features, including live translation during calls and the introduction of Samsung’s generative AI model, Gauss.

One UI 6.1 is expected to be released soon, likely accompanying the Galaxy S24 series. There are also leaks hinting at a battery-preserving feature included in One UI 6.1 to ensure that Galaxy handsets stay charged and ready for use.
