Samsung is rethinking its plans to launch an affordable Fan Edition model of the popular Galaxy Z Fold series. The rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, set to join Samsung’s 2024 lineup of foldable phones, has been put on hold. It is uncertain if this model will ever see the light of day.
Instead, Samsung is shifting its focus towards enhancing the Fold 6 and Flip 6 devices. By incorporating cost-saving measures and insights gained during the development of the Fold 6 FE, Samsung aims to improve the overall user experience of its flagship foldable phones.
The decision to reconsider the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE launch stems from stiff competition from Chinese foldable phones. Brands like Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei, and Vivo have managed to create thinner and more affordable foldable devices compared to Samsung’s offerings.
Samsung’s initial plan for the Fold 6 FE was to compromise on certain features present in the Z Fold 6 in order to reduce production costs and achieve a slimmer design. However, despite efforts to differentiate its foldable FE line with improved durability and water resistance features, Samsung struggled to match up to Chinese competitors.
While Samsung has seen success with its foldable phones in China, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE failed to make a significant impact in this competitive market. As a result, Samsung is reconsidering its plans for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE launch and may delay or cancel it altogether.
Additionally, Samsung had intentions to release a more budget-friendly version of its Flip line with a potential Z Flip 7 FE in 2025. The status of this model remains uncertain as well.
