Google has announced that the star messages feature, which was previously only available on the web version of Chat, will now be coming to mobile in the coming weeks. This new feature will allow Android and iOS users to access any “starred” messages in Google Chat using an additional shortcut on the contextual menu in the redesigned navigation panel.
To star a message on either Android or iOS, users can simply long-press on the message and click the star icon. Of course, users will also have the ability to unstar a message from the original message or unstar messages from the shortcut.
According to Google, the starring message feature is not available in existing spaces organized by conversation topic (legacy threaded). However, this new feature is available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts.
Android users can expect to see the ability to star messages in Chat within the next two weeks, starting on January 19. Similarly, iOS users will also be getting the new feature within the same timeframe, starting on January 16.
