Google and Apple have finally announced the long-awaited support for unwanted tracking alerts in their respective operating systems. Apple will introduce this feature in iOS 17.5, while Google is rolling it out for Android devices running on version 6.0 or higher.
This new feature is designed to alert users when an unknown Bluetooth tracking device is detected moving with them over time. Whether you’re using an Android or iOS device, this capability will help you track the unknown Bluetooth device paired with your phone.
When a user receives an alert on their iOS device, it indicates that someone else’s AirTag, Find My accessory, or similar Bluetooth tracking device is in close proximity. Users can use their iPhone or Android smartphone to view the tracker’s identifier, play a sound to locate it, and access instructions to disable it if needed.
In a collaborative effort between Apple and Google, leading Bluetooth tag manufacturers like Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola, and Pebblebee have committed to ensuring compatibility with future tags. This cross-platform collaboration marks an industry first, with both companies pledging to continue developing the official standard for this technology.
Stay tuned for more updates as Apple and Google work together to enhance user privacy and security across their platforms.
