Texas and Google to face off in court in March 2025 over antitrust dispute

Texas and Google are set for a court showdown in March 2025 over an antitrust battle involving advertising technology systems. US District Judge Sean Jordan has scheduled the trial to begin on March 31, 2025, in Plano, Texas and is expected to last four weeks.

Texas had pushed for an August 2024 trial date, arguing that any delay would allow Google to continue abusing its market power. However, Google’s lawyers requested a trial date after April 2025. Google has denied any wrongdoing and referred to Texas’ case as “deeply flawed”.

The lawsuit, filed by Texas in 2020, alleges that Google violated antitrust laws to stifle competition for digital advertising and prioritize its own business. Similar claims are being made by advertisers, publishers, and small businesses in a separate legal proceeding in Manhattan, as well as by the U.S. Justice Department which sued Google in Alexandria, Virginia last year.

Aside from the ad-related cases, Google is currently facing antitrust claims in a Washington federal court over allegations that it paid tech companies billions of dollars to unlawfully maintain dominance for online search. In addition, Google is also set to go to trial in California against “Fortnite” maker Epic Games over its app store, Play. The jury ruled in December that Google had unlawfully harmed competition.
