Unlocking the Future: Apple Introduces ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’ for Contactless Payments in Canada • Phones Canada Blog

Apple has introduced its latest feature, ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone,’ in Canada. This contactless payment system allows businesses to securely accept payments from credit and debit cards on iPhones using partner-enabled iOS apps.

Here are some key points about Tap to Pay on iPhone:

– Millions of businesses in Canada can now use iPhones for contactless, in-person payments.
– The system simplifies the process of accepting payments via debit or credit cards of any size.
– Apple Pay and other supported digital wallets can also be used for transactions.
– No additional payment terminal or hardware is required for businesses to start accepting payments.

Currently, Tap to Pay on iPhone is supported by Adyen, Moneris, Stripe, and Square in Canada. More partners are expected to join soon, including Aurus, Chase Payment Solutions, Fiserv, and Helcim. Retailers like Sephora will also offer this payment option.

According to Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, Canadians are increasingly embracing digital and contactless payment options. She expressed excitement about partnering with payment platforms to provide a secure and user-friendly solution for businesses across the country.

Tap to Pay on iPhone initially launched in the U.S. in 2022 and supports contactless credit and debit cards from networks like American Express, Interac, Mastercard, and Visa. To use this feature, retailers need a supported iOS app on an iPhone Xs or later running the latest iOS version.

To accept a payment using Tap to Pay on iPhone:

1. Prompt the customer to hold their contactless card or digital wallet near your iPhone.
2. The transaction will be securely processed using NFC technology.

Apple ensures that payment data is encrypted and processed securely through ‘Secure Element.’ This means that at no point during the transaction does Apple have access to purchase details or customer information.
