WhatsApp, a widely used messaging app globally, has been evolving since its acquisition by Meta, introducing more social media-like features. Recently, WhatsApp introduced status updates that are becoming increasingly similar to Instagram stories, allowing users to tag others. And now, further changes are on the horizon for status updates.

In the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.24.7.16) update, a redesigned editor page for status updates was uncovered by the team at WABetaInfo. This new editor page includes a Text option alongside the existing Video and Photo options at the bottom of the screen. Currently, WhatsApp only allows video and photo updates through the My Status option in the Updates tab.

The screenshot reveals that users will soon have the choice to share text, videos, or photos at the bottom of the screen, enhancing the sharing process. This new way of sharing status updates is still in development and will be available in a future update of the app.

Currently, users can access the text-based status editor by tapping the pencil icon in the Updates tab. It’s important to note that WhatsApp does not allow switching between different types of status (text, photo, video) once you’re in the editor/preview page. If you need to make changes, you will have to start over.

If this new update moves out of beta and becomes official, it could bring several benefits by reducing the number of steps needed to switch between text and media. With this feature integrated directly into the composer, users can easily switch between various types of content without leaving their current screen, improving efficiency and convenience.
