Why the iPhone 15 Pro Excels in Running Apple Intelligence: A Closer Look at Telecommunications Tech

Apple recently launched its new AI initiative called Apple Intelligence, which will be supported on devices powered by the M1 chip. This means that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, equipped with the A16 application processor, won’t support this new AI feature. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, along with upcoming iPhone 16 series models, will fully support Apple Intelligence.

According to TF International’s Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the reason behind this difference lies in the amount of DRAM memory in the devices. The M1 chip, which powers devices supporting Apple Intelligence, has 8GB of DRAM compared to the 6GB found in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models.

Here are some key points to consider:

– The M1 chip can handle 11 trillion operations per second (TOPS), while the A16 AP used in non-Pro models can perform up to 17 TOPS.
– Apple Intelligence’s on-device AI LLM requires about 2GB or less of DRAM.
– In the future, Apple plans to move to a 7B LLM for Apple Intelligence, which will require even more DRAM in upcoming iPhone models.

Kuo also mentions that Apple may use DRAM requirements as a way to differentiate between non-Pro and Pro iPhone models and potentially generate more revenue from buyers. While competitors may try to catch up with Apple’s on-device AI technology, it remains to be seen if users will experience the claimed benefits as promised by Apple.

In conclusion, those who invested in an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max can enjoy all the benefits of Apple Intelligence, while others might have missed out on this feature due to hardware limitations. Stay tuned for more updates on how this AI initiative shapes future smartphone technology!
