Apple to Start Charging Service Fee for Boosted Posts on iOs Facebook and Instagram Apps

Meta recently announced a significant change that will affect users of the Facebook and Instagram iOS apps. Starting this month, a 30% fee will be imposed on those who want to boost the visibility of their posts. This move is in response to Apple’s new policy, which requires a 30% cut from digital transactions within apps.

Here are some key points to note about this upcoming change:

– The 30% fee will apply to boosted posts or ads that are designed to expand content reach on Facebook and Instagram.
– Boosts purchased on iOS will now be processed through Apple, resulting in a 30% service charge before taxes.
– Small business owners and influencers who wish to purchase a boost on iOS will be billed through Apple, with the 30% service charge applied.

Meta has suggested an alternative for users to avoid the additional fee. They recommend purchasing boosts via Facebook and Instagram’s desktop or mobile websites instead of the iOS apps. However, this alternative may pose constraints for iOS app users who will need to preload funds with an additional 30% fee.

According to Meta, they are required to comply with Apple’s guidelines or remove boosted posts from their apps. They emphasize that removing the ability to boost posts would negatively impact small businesses by making the feature less discoverable and potentially depriving them of a valuable way to promote their business.

On the other hand, Apple defends its policy by stating that digital goods and services within apps must utilize In-App Purchase, which includes boosted posts.

This change is set to take effect in the US initially, with plans for expansion into other markets later on. Stay tuned for more updates on how this development unfolds.
