Honor has just launched its next-gen mobile software called Magic OS 8.0 in China, and it features clever AI magic onboard, which is dubbed as the “world’s first intent-based UI (IUI).”
What is an intent-based user interface?
The software system is powered by an AI hardware chip and can do some impressive things with the help of AI. Honor also launched its MagicLM, which is a large language model not dissimilar to the infamous ChatGPT.
Magic Portal – your phone now knows what you need
MagicOS 8.0 is designed to interpret language, images, gestures, and eye movements to understand a user’s intent and offer services proactively. This means that the phone will automatically take you to a relevant page based on your interests, or offer suggestions for your specific needs.
MagicLM – your AI can understand you
MagicLM is Honor’s version of an AI language model that is designed to understand natural language, convert text to speech and vice versa, analyze data, and answer questions. It can also help you find specific frames in videos just by speaking out loud.
My phone is listening to me. I feel a bit paranoid now
Honor emphasizes that all the data stays on the device and is safeguarded in a secured virtual space called Parallel Space, ensuring user privacy and data security.
We’re excited about this new AI-based interface and look forward to testing it out in person. It has the potential to transform the way we interact with our phones. Stay tuned for further developments in AI-based interfaces from other manufacturers.
