Telecom Titans Unite: AT&T and T-Mobile Customers Unveil Hacker’s Identity

Recently, there has been a cybersecurity breach that has exposed phone records of over 100 million customers of AT&T and T-Mobile. While this breach did not include customer names, call or text contents, or sensitive data like Social Security numbers, it is still a cause for concern.

John Binns, a 24-year-old American hacker who admitted to breaking into T-Mobile’s servers in 2021, is now being linked to the AT&T breach by authorities. Although Binns may not be solely responsible for the attack on AT&T, he is believed to be involved in a plot to steal logs related to phone calls and text messages of customers in 2022.

It has been reported that at least one person, allegedly Binns, has already been arrested by law enforcement officials and is currently in detention in Turkey. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the identities of others who may have assisted Binns in accessing AT&T’s system.

When Binns confessed to breaching T-Mobile’s servers, he claimed he wanted to raise awareness about the carrier’s security vulnerabilities. However, it appears that he also sold customer information on dark web forums used by cybercriminals.

Despite this breach, AT&T reassures its customers that there is no evidence suggesting their data was shared publicly. The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and staying vigilant against potential threats in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
