iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus to Have Increased RAM and Enhanced Wi-Fi, Analyst Predicts

According to MacRumors, there is a possibility of improved multitasking on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus this year. The Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu expects both 2024 non-Pro models to be equipped with 8GB of RAM, an increase from the 6GB of RAM found in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Pu also anticipates Apple to continue with the 8GB of RAM on the Pro variants. If these expectations are met, then all four iPhone 16 models will feature 8GB of RAM this year.

For those who may not be familiar with RAM, it stands for Random Access Memory and is temporary memory that is erased when we shut our phones off. The amount of RAM on a phone impacts its capabilities in multitasking since frequently used apps and app data are stored in RAM. Even though 8GB of RAM in iOS may seem lower when compared to the current 24GB of RAM offered on some new high-end Android phones, it is essential to remember that the amount of RAM on an Android phone cannot be directly compared with an iOS phone due to differences in how the two platforms work.

Pu also predicts that the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro will be upgraded from the Wi-Fi 6 standard to Wi-Fi 6E, with the Pro variants likely to further upgrade to the recently unveiled Wi-Fi 7. The non-Pro iPhone 16 models will be equipped with the new Action Button, allowing users to press a button to set off a pre-determined action such as turning on the flashlight, opening the camera app, or accessing an accessibility feature. Additionally, all four iPhone 16 models will feature the new Capture Button for recording videos.

The screen sizes for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain the same, with both devices retaining the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens. The Pro models are expected to have different screen sizes, at 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max respectively. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are also expected to feature the Tetraprism periscope camera, an addition from last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Moreover, all four 2024 iPhone 16 models will be powered by the A18 chipset, with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus using the A18 Bionic, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max utilizing the more capable A18 Pro SoC, both manufactured by TSMC using its 3nm process node.

There is speculation that the iPhone 16 line is set to be unveiled around eight months from now.
