Samsung Wallet to Introduce Mobile Driver’s Licenses for Select States Later This Year

Phones Canada Team: There’s nothing more convenient than having a digital wallet that holds everything you need, allowing you to travel light with just your phone. Apple users in select states have had the option to store their mobile driver’s licenses in their digital wallet since 2022. Now, Samsung is joining in on the fun by introducing mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs to Samsung Wallet, as reported by Android Authority.

Samsung Wallet will soon support mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs. The initial rollout will begin in Iowa and Arizona, making residents of these states the first to access this feature. This means that you can have a digital version of your driver’s license or state ID right in the Samsung Wallet app. To ensure security, accuracy, and privacy, Samsung has partnered with IDEMIA for this endeavor. While the exact release date has not been announced, the feature is expected to be available later this year. Additional states will also receive this feature, although specific timelines are currently unclear.

In addition, Samsung is collaborating with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on a test program that will allow mobile driver’s licenses to be accepted at 25 federalized airports.

It’s important to note that the functionality of a mobile driver’s license may vary depending on the state you reside in. While the technology is still in its early stages, we have high expectations for the convenience it will bring in the future. We will keep you updated with any further developments, so stay tuned!
