An Exciting Enhancement for Video Content Creators: ProRes with Log Profile for iPhone 15 Pro Models

Phones Canada brings you exciting news for iPhone users! Starting with the iPhone 13 Pro series and continuing through the 14 Pro line and the 15 Pro models, you can now record and edit videos using Apple’s ProRes codec. This feature allows you to create professional-quality videos with great detail and colors.

Apple has also introduced ProRes with Log encoding for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Log recording captures the dynamic range of a video, including shadows and highlights, and maps it across a logarithmic curve. Initially, Log recordings may appear washed out and lacking contrast. But fear not! With a LUT (Look Up Table) preset file during post-production, you can add shadows and highlights and apply specific color grading to achieve the desired look, mood, or style.

To shoot in ProRes with Log on your iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats.
2. Toggle on Apple ProRes.
3. Below that setting, enable ProRes Encoding and select Log.
4. Open the camera app and choose video mode.
5. Before starting to record, tap the ProRes LOG icon in the upper left corner of the screen to remove the line through it.

As you start recording, you’ll notice that the images appear flat with muted colors. This is completely normal! The real magic happens during post-production when you can utilize LUT presets from apps available in the App Store or professional video editing software for Mac or PC.

Compared to normal HDR video recording on the iPhone, ProRes with Log provides amateur and professional cinematographers and videographers creative control over the look and feel of their videos. Say goodbye to over-processed colors, over-sharpened details, and unrealistic contrasts and colors!

The original image was deliberately captured in a flat style, but through color grading with LUT presets, the video was transformed into a beautifully balanced depiction. Notice the accurate colors, the details in the flowers on the beach, and even the foam from the waves.

Moreover, the powerful Tetraprism 5x zoom available exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro Max showcased its advantage by revealing distant details of a building across the water.

With the addition of the ProRes with Log profile to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, video content creators now have the ability to bring their vision to life and share it with the world.

Exciting times lie ahead for iPhone users who are passionate about capturing stunning videos. Stay tuned for more updates from Phones Canada, your go-to source for all things mobile!
