Apple settles lawsuit over iTunes gift card scam allegedly involving a black cat

In recent times, Apple has found itself in the middle of legal battles and lawsuits. Most recently, the tech giant settled a lawsuit over its Family Sharing feature for a hefty sum. Additionally, there have been reports of declining flagship iPhone sales in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Now, Apple is facing more legal trouble as it has agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing the company of allowing scammers to exploit its gift cards, resulting in stolen money. The lawsuit alleges that Apple knowingly allowed fraudsters to use iTunes and App Store gift cards to swindle victims into paying for things like taxes, bills, and debt collection.

According to the complaint, Apple would deposit only 70% of the stolen funds into the scammer’s bank accounts, keeping the remaining 30% as a “commission” for converting the stolen codes into cash. The scam is said to have caused victims to lose hundreds of millions of dollars.

If you purchased gift cards redeemable on iTunes or the App Store between 2015 and July 2020 and fell victim to this scam, you may be eligible to receive funds as part of the settlement. This is a developing situation, and we will be sure to update you on any further developments.
