Dimensity 9300 SoC exhibits unexpected performance drop of 46% during stress test due to configuration issues

In an unusual configuration, MediaTek’s new flagship Dimensity 9300 chipset consists of four Cortex-X4 Prime CPU cores and four Cortex-A720 Performance CPU cores, with no low-power Efficiency CPU cores. This powerful configuration makes the chipset prone to overheating, as evident by the Dimensity 9300 throttling its performance by 46% during the CPU Throttling Test. The clock speeds dropped significantly while under stress, despite the chip being produced using TSMC’s energy-efficient N4P 4nm process node. The chip was tested on the Vivo X100 Pro, which features a vapor chamber to dissipate heat. This indicates that MediaTek may need to rework the Dimensity 9400 for better performance next year. Despite this, everyday use of phones relying on the Dimensity 9300 AP, like the Vivo X100 Pro, should be just fine.
