WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, is always evolving to enhance user experience. Recently, the company introduced a revamped status updates tray in their Android beta, featuring a sleek new look with larger thumbnails and a modern layout. But that’s not all – WhatsApp is now focusing on improving the status update experience by prioritizing updates from your closest contacts.
In the latest Android beta test, WhatsApp is experimenting with “ranked status updates” to ensure you see updates from your most important contacts first. Instead of displaying updates in chronological order, WhatsApp will intelligently reorder them based on factors like your interaction frequency with each contact, whether they are pinned to the top of your chats, and when you last messaged them.
Even expiring status updates will receive a boost to make sure you catch those fleeting moments. Official WhatsApp announcements will remain at the top of the list to ensure you never miss important information from the app itself. Timestamps on status updates have been removed as part of this new design focus on showcasing the most relevant updates rather than just the newest ones.
It’s important to note that all data used for ranking updates stays on your device, preserving your privacy. However, there are some quirks to consider – reinstalling WhatsApp or linking a new device may reset the ranking system temporarily as the app relearns your preferences. Additionally, using WhatsApp on multiple devices may result in slightly varied order of status updates due to differences in synced chat histories.
Currently available only to a limited number of beta testers, the ranked status updates feature is poised for wider release if successful. Stay tuned for future WhatsApp updates as your status feed could soon become more personalized and engaging than ever before!
