OnePlus Open Foldable Phone Spotted in Public
While OnePlus has yet to unveil its first foldable phone, the book-style foldable OnePlus Open was recently spotted in public. Indian movie star Anushka Sharma was caught on video holding the phone, revealing the OnePlus logo underneath the rear camera circle. Anushka opens the foldable to view the larger internal display.
The OnePlus Open is expected to take design cues from Oppo’s upcoming foldable phone, as both companies are part of China’s BBK Electronics. Oppo and OnePlus merged their R&D teams a couple of years ago. The OnePlus Open is rumored to have a 7.82-inch internal display with a resolution of 2268 x 2240, similar to Oppo’s Find N3 Fold.
The OnePlus Open is also rumored to feature a 6.31-inch external display with a resolution of 2484 x 1116 and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The rear camera setup may include a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP telephoto camera with a periscope lens. The model spotted in Anushka Sharma’s hands comes in Voyage Black, with an additional color option called Emerald Eclipse. The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 application processor (AP) and come with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is likely to run Android 13 out of the box and have a 4800mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. The phone is anticipated to be unveiled later this month.
OnePlus has a history of generating buzz by putting unannounced phones in the hands of celebrities. Interestingly, Anushka Sharma’s husband, cricket star Virat Kohli, is a brand ambassador for another company under the BBK Electronics umbrella, Vivo.
