Google Messages, the popular app for RCS/SMS/MMS on Android, has achieved a significant milestone by exceeding five billion installations. This news comes as Google initiates its “#GetTheMessage” campaign, urging Apple to adopt RCS technology.
Formerly known as “Android Messages,” Google Messages has evolved into one of the most widely used apps for SMS, MMS, and RCS messaging. With its user-friendly interface and valuable features, it has won the hearts of users worldwide. Additionally, the app offers a desktop web client that enables users to conveniently read and respond to messages from various devices such as tablets, PCs, and Macs.
Before reaching the five billion installation mark, Google Messages had already achieved a remarkable feat in the spring of 2020 when it surpassed one billion downloads. At that time, the app was not pre-installed on most Android devices, except for Pixel devices.
In 2022, Samsung made Google Messages its default messaging app, resulting in pre-installation on Samsung phones.
One of the standout features of Google Messages is its support for RCS, which surpasses the capabilities of traditional SMS and MMS. Despite Google’s persistent efforts to bring Apple on board, RCS remains exclusive to Android devices.
As the “Phones Canada” team, we are excited to witness the remarkable growth of Google Messages, reaching new milestones and establishing itself as a vital tool for Android users. Stay tuned for more updates on the world of mobile technology!
