OnePlus’ 10 year anniversary is this year, and they are celebrating by releasing one of the best phones, the OnePlus 12. The phone features a stellar camera system similar to its foldable brother, the OnePlus Open, which was released in October.
The new 3X telephoto camera of the OnePlus 12 comes with a 64MP sensor, allowing for up to 6X zoom via sensor crop while maintaining incredible levels of detail. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and Galaxy S23/S23 Plus also have 3X zoom cameras, but they lack the 6X sensor crop feature as they use lower resolution sensors.
The cameras on the OnePlus 12 look promising on paper. If they perform as well as the ones on the company’s foldable, then we might have a serious contender for the best camera phones.
Let’s take a detailed look at the OnePlus 12 cameras.
OnePlus 12 Camera Upgrades:
– A powerful main camera with the new Sony LYT-808 sensor (1/1.4-inch size)
– The 3X 64MP periscope telephoto camera allows for highly-detailed 6X zoom photos, and up to 120X digital zoom.
– The ultra-wide camera shows no apparent changes from the OnePlus 11.
– Full support for shooting, editing, and displaying in Dolby Vision HDR.
The OnePlus 12 is equipped with a total of four cameras: wide, ultra-wide, 3X telephoto, and a selfie camera embedded in the display.
The main (wide-angle) camera is 50MP, the ultra-wide snapper is 48MP with a 114° field of view, the telephoto lens is 64MP with 3X optical zoom, 6X sensor crop, and 120x digital zoom, and the selfie camera is 32MP.
Here’s a detailed overview of each camera sensor on the OnePlus 12:
– Main (wide-angle): 50MP, powered by the new Sony LYT-808 sensor
– Ultra-wide: 48MP, FOV 114°, powered by Sony IMX581
– Telephoto: 64MP, 3X optical zoom, 6X sensor crop, 120x digital zoom, powered by OmniVision OV64B 3.0X
– Selfie/front-facing: 20MP, unspecified sensor
The main camera on the OnePlus 12 comes with a slightly wider aperture, 50MP instead of 48MP, and a 23mm focal length. Although these differences are small, the level of image quality is expected to be similar.
