Removal of Galaxy S24 Ultra 10x Periscope Camera Linked to Cost-cutting Measures

The Galaxy S23 Ultra’s Impressive Camera Features

The Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a standout feature – the 10x 10MP periscope telephoto camera – setting it apart from other top camera phones that lack such a high zoom capability. Additionally, it offers 100x digital zoom and another 10MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom.

Although the new 50MP sensor has a lower zoom range compared to the current 10MP 10x camera, it brings improvements in terms of resolution and low-light performance. The higher resolution allows for more detailed pictures, while the larger sensor size enables better light gathering, addressing issues seen in longer zoom ranges. Notably, the phone is expected to utilize sensor crop for approximate 10x zoom range.

This rumor of the Galaxy S24 Ultra potentially omitting the 10x periscope camera may disappoint some fans, but the decision was made after careful consideration.

Renowned leaker Revegnus suggests that the cost of manufacturing the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be higher than its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Utilizing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for all regions limits Samsung’s financial flexibility compared to using a proprietary chip. Additionally, Qualcomm’s next flagship chip is rumored to be significantly more expensive than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, leading some manufacturers to opt out. Furthermore, speculations indicate that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s base RAM will increase from 8GB to 16GB.
While Samsung might have been considering a price increase before the announcement of the iPhone 15 series, Apple’s latest phones maintain a similar price point to their predecessors. Consequently, Samsung may have to make compromises to maintain competitiveness in the market.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a flat screen with thicker bezels, along with a titanium frame, according to earlier rumors.
