Huawei’s Kirin Ranks as One of the Top 5 Chipmakers in the World, Google’s Tensor Still Awaits Recognition

Huawei’s Kirin chip has made it to the top five global chipmakers, despite the challenges the company has faced due to US sanctions. According to a Q3 2023 report by Counterpoint Research, Huawei’s chipmaker Hisilicon now holds fifth place with a 3% share of the global chipset market.

The success of the Mate 60 series, which features the 5G-enabled Kirin 9000s chip, has contributed to Huawei’s achievement. The Mate 60 Pro sold 1.6 million units in just six weeks, and other devices like the Mate X5 foldable phone and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet have also received positive feedback from users in China.

Looking towards 2024, Huawei is preparing to launch the mid-range Nova 12 series, which will also feature Kirin processors.

In terms of other players in the global chipset market, Qualcomm continues to dominate with a 40% market share, followed by Apple with 31%, MediaTek with 15%, and Samsung with 7%. After Huawei, Unisoc and Google’s Tensor SoC hold a 2% and 1% market share, respectively.
