Exciting News: X Announces Arrival of NSFW Communities for Telecommunications Enthusiasts in Canada

It seems like X (formerly Twitter) is adding some spice to its platform, particularly with its Communities feature. Admins will soon have the option to categorize their subreddit-style groups as “adult content”, following rumors about X possibly embracing NSFW material.

The news was casually revealed by X engineer Dong Wook Chung in a recent post. Chung suggested that soon, users’ X feeds may become more filtered, with NSFW content automatically hidden within Communities. The twist? Admins will have the authority to decide whether their Community receives the “Adult” label or not.

This move may not be surprising to some, as hints about X introducing “adult-sensitive” content settings had been previously uncovered by researchers. It’s worth noting that X has traditionally allowed slightly riskier content compared to other social media platforms, but it draws the line at profile pictures and Community banners.

Interestingly, X’s “Communities” concept isn’t entirely new, as Twitter began experimenting with it in 2021, promising a new level of engaging conversations. However, the potential for adult-themed discussions was never explicitly mentioned. In addition, reports suggest that in 2022, X briefly considered launching an OnlyFans competitor before abandoning the idea due to concerns about exacerbating existing issues related to illegal child exploitation material.

To provide more clarity on the situation, Chung emphasized that this setting aims to enhance safety within Communities by automatically filtering out NSFW content. Users will also be required to specify their age before accessing these NSFW communities. Despite these measures, there is a sense of anticipation about how things will unfold once the filter is activated. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving development!
