Apple’s New Warning: Avoid This Spot if Your iPhone Gets Wet – Phones Canada

Apple has recently updated its support page regarding the water resistance of the iPhone 7 and later models. According to the company, there are certain myths and old wives’ tales about how to handle a wet iPhone that need to be debunked. To ensure the longevity of your device, it’s important to follow Apple’s recommendations for drying a wet iPhone. Here are some dos and don’ts provided by Apple:

Don’ts:
– Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice, as this could allow small particles of rice to damage your device.
– Don’t dry your iPhone using an external heat source or compressed air.
– Don’t insert a foreign object, such as a cotton swab or paper towel, into the connector.

Dos:
– After unplugging the USB-C cable from the charging port and allowing both the cable and iPhone to dry, tap your iPhone gently against your hand with the connector facing down to remove excess liquid.
– Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow for at least 30 minutes before attempting to charge it with a Lightning or USB-C cable or connecting an accessory.
– If you receive an alert indicating that liquid has been detected in the connector, leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow for up to a day.
– If your phone has dried out but still isn’t charging, unplug the cable from the adapter and unplug the adapter from the wall (if possible) and then connect them again.

Apple also provides warnings that will let you know if there is still liquid in the connector or under the pins of your cable. On devices using the Lightning cable to charge, a pop-up will notify you that charging is not available due to detected liquid. For iPhone 15 series models, there might be a full-page warning indicating that liquid has been detected in the USB-C connector.

Remember:
– Rice is not recommended for drying out a wet iPhone. Follow Apple’s guidelines instead.

By following these tips from Apple, you can ensure that your wet iPhone is properly dried without causing any further damage. Remember not to use rice as it could potentially harm your device.
