Enhance Your Texting Experience: Google Messages Introduces Expanded Custom Color Themes for RCS Conversations

Google Messages has introduced a new feature for its users, allowing them to customize conversation themes with different bubble and background colors. This update comes as part of Google’s celebration of reaching one billion monthly active RCS users.

While some features like animated emoji and screen effects were quickly rolled out to users, the custom themes feature took a bit longer to reach everyone. But now, it seems that the wait is over as this feature is receiving a wider rollout.

To check if you have access to this feature, make sure you are in an RCS chat (not SMS/MMS). Simply tap on the three-dot menu within a chat thread and select “Change colors.” This will open up a range of color options for you to choose from.

It’s worth noting that the customization process works slightly differently on Pixel devices compared to Samsung Galaxy devices. On Pixel devices using Material You dynamic theming, the theme affects both the background and bubble colors. On Samsung Galaxy devices, it only alters the bubble color.

Once you successfully change the theme, you’ll receive a notification at the bottom confirming the change and providing a shortcut to modify it again. Have fun exploring different themes on your Google Messages app!
