Enhanced Podcast Experience: YouTube Music Elevates as Top Destination for Podcasts in Canada

YouTube Music is enhancing the podcast listening experience with new features that are currently rolling out. Users can now enjoy a new filtering option on show pages, allowing them to sort podcasts by criteria such as newest to oldest, oldest to newest, most popular, and default. Soon, additional sorting options like in progress, unplayed, and played podcasts will be available. These updates make it easier to find specific podcasts or prioritize new episodes.

Another exciting addition is the ability to search for artists by name when creating a radio station. This customization feature offers more control over the music selection within the radio station. While these features are still in the rollout phase and may not be available to all users yet, they are sure to enhance the podcast listening experience on YouTube Music.

In an effort to migrate podcasts over to YouTube Music, the platform continues to introduce new features and improvements. YouTube Chief Product Officer Johanna Voolich emphasizes the importance of meeting users where they’re at when it comes to product development. The goal is to provide a seamless podcast experience that caters to both traditional listeners and those looking for a visual component.

Despite the decision to move all podcasts from Google Podcasts app to YouTube Music being met with some resistance, YouTube remains committed to evolving its platform. While some basic podcast features like marking episodes as played or receiving new episode notifications are still missing from YouTube Music, the platform aims to create a hybrid podcast experience that can cater to both audio-only and visual content consumers.

With ongoing improvements promised by YouTube, it’s clear that the platform is dedicated to redefining podcasts and providing users with innovative discovery tools. By incorporating visual elements into podcasts and leveraging its existing user base, YouTube hopes to attract back former Google Podcasts users who have migrated elsewhere. Stay tuned for more updates as YouTube continues its mission of reshaping the podcast landscape!
