Exciting Updates: Google Testing New Phone App Layout Changes in Canada!

Google is currently working on a new layout for the Google Phone app, also known as the Phone by Google app. This app is widely used on Android devices but often goes unnoticed. The upcoming update will introduce a new user interface that eliminates the bottom bar on the dialer, which currently includes options such as Favorite, Recents, Contacts, and Voicemail. Instead, users will see a three-line hamburger menu icon at the top of the screen. Tapping on this icon will reveal a side panel with only two options: Contacts and Voicemail.

While this new layout may initially seem empty with just two options displayed, Google might be planning to add more features to fill out the side panel in future updates. The Favorites and Recents options from the bottom bar are not visible in the new layout but could potentially appear alongside Contacts and Voicemail when accessing the hamburger menu icon. This adjustment would enhance the overall appearance of the side panel.

The discovery of this new layout was made by AssembleDebug and PiunikaWeb in the public beta version 128.0.625763929. Users can expect to see these changes in upcoming beta updates for the Phone by Google app, with compatibility extending to devices like Pixel 6 Pro running Android 15 beta 1.

In addition to layout modifications, AssembleDebug also found a code string related to Emergency SOS functionality for Android users. This feature enables users to connect to emergency services via satellite if cellular connectivity is unavailable. Emergency SOS is anticipated to be included in Android 15’s final release scheduled for September or October.

For those eager to explore Android 15’s beta version despite potential risks like app malfunctions, reduced battery life, and bugs interfering with daily usage, an opt-in option is available for compatible Pixel handsets at google.com/android/beta or through specific settings on your device.

Stay tuned for further updates as Google continues to enhance its Phone app with innovative features and improved functionality for users across various Android devices.
