Google Cloud powers the generative AI features of the Samsung Galaxy S24

Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S24, is set to be the most advanced phone to date, and it will be packed with powerful AI features. Samsung has announced that all the advanced AI features on the Galaxy S24 will be powered by Google Cloud.

The Galaxy S24 will be the first Samsung device to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud. This means that other Galaxy devices might also receive similar AI features in the near future. Gemini has been designed to be multimodal and can understand and operate across different types of information such as text, code, images, and video.

Samsung-native apps will benefit from Gemini’s power at launch, with features such as summarization across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. Imagen 2, Google’s most advanced text-to-image diffusion technology, will also be part of Galaxy S24’s AI package, providing intuitive photo-editing capabilities through the Generative Edit feature in the S24’s Gallery application.

It’s important to note that using Generative Edit will require a network connection and Samsung Account login, and a visible watermark will be overlaid on the image output to indicate that the image is generated by AI. Also, editing with Generative Edit will result in a resized photo up to 12MP.

In addition, Samsung will be the first Google customer to test Gemini Ultra, the Mountain View company’s most capable and largest model for highly complex tasks, with all Galaxy S24 models using Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM that comes with Android 14. Exciting times lie ahead for Samsung fans with the advanced AI features on the Galaxy S24.
