Intel receives $400 million machine, heralding a new era of robust chips.

The extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machine is an important tool used by foundries in the manufacture of advanced chips. ASML is the company that makes these machines, and they cost $150 million each. The first second-generation EUV machine, known as the High-NA EUV machine, has been shipped to Intel for its 18A (18 angstroms) 1.8nm process node. This new machine will give Intel process leadership in the industry in 2025. It features higher numerical aperture, which means a higher resolution pattern being etched onto the wafer. With this machine, features can be made 1.7x smaller with a 2.9x increase in density, contributing to the development of more powerful and energy-efficient chips.
