New Privacy Feature on WhatsApp Lets Users Conceal Their IP Address

WhatsApp is introducing a new privacy feature in its latest update that is set to roll out this week. The feature will allow users to hide their IP address during WhatsApp calls, adding an extra layer of privacy for those who want to keep their location hidden.

To enable this feature, users will need to relay their calls through WhatsApp’s servers, which means that their IP address will not be revealed to the person they are calling. By default, group calls are already relayed through WhatsApp’s servers, but the new feature will need to be manually enabled for individual calls.

To enable the feature, users can go to Settings / Privacy / Advanced and enable “Protect IP address in calls.” The same process can be used to turn the privacy setting off whenever needed.

It’s worth noting that WhatsApp has mentioned in its blog post that the call quality may be reduced when the new feature is enabled, as calls will be relayed through WhatsApp’s servers. However, it’s important to highlight that all calls on WhatsApp remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that no one will be able to listen in on them, not even WhatsApp.
