Phones Canada: X (formerly Twitter) brings enhanced audio and video calling to all users

X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter, is expanding its audio and video calling capabilities. Previously exclusive to Premium subscribers, this feature is now available to all users on the platform.

Enrique Barragan, an engineer at X, announced the expansion via a post on the platform. This aligns with Elon Musk’s vision of making X an “everything app,” as he has often expressed.

Here’s how the new feature works:

– You can control your audio and video calling options from the Direct Messages settings.
– By default, you can receive calls from accounts you follow or have in your address book.
– Both the caller and recipient must have been in contact at least once via X’s Direct Messages to make a call.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can allow calls from everyone on the platform by turning on that option. For added privacy, consider enabling the “Enhanced call privacy” setting to hide your IP address from callers.

The updated calling features are being gradually rolled out to users. If you prefer not to make or receive calls on X/Twitter, you can disable this feature in your Direct Message settings.

Stay tuned for more updates as X continues to enhance its communication capabilities for all users.
