X (Twitter) Introduces Passkey Support for Android Users – Enhance Your Mobile Security Now!

Phones Canada is excited to share that X, the popular social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is working on introducing passkey support to its Android app, following a successful rollout on iOS. This new feature will offer Android users a more convenient and secure way to access the app.

What exactly are passkeys? Passkeys are an innovative authentication method that eliminates the need for complex passwords. Instead, they rely on secure methods such as biometrics (fingerprint or facial recognition) or device-specific cryptographic keys. This significantly enhances the security of your online accounts and reduces the risk of hacking or phishing attempts.

The iOS version of the app has already received passkey support, and according to findings by @AssembleDebug from The SP Android, Android users can expect this feature soon. References to passkeys were discovered in the X/Twitter beta app (version 10.32.0-beta), indicating that the feature is actively in development and close to its official launch.

While passkeys are not yet fully functional on Android, they will be accessible within the X app under Settings and privacy > Security and account access > Security > Additional password protection once released. This demonstrates X’s commitment to providing enhanced security measures for its users.

Passkeys offer a higher level of security compared to traditional passwords, which can be easily compromised. By being tied to your device and often requiring biometric verification, passkeys offer a more robust defense against unauthorized access.

X’s decision to embrace passkeys reflects a broader industry shift towards passwordless authentication, promising a more user-friendly and secure online experience for all users. Stay tuned for updates on when this exciting new feature will be available on X’s Android app!
