Apple’s Latest iPad Pro (2024) Could Launch Early Due to OLED Panel Challenges – Get the Inside Scoop!

The anticipation for the new iPad Pro (2024) and iPad Air (2024) lines is building up, with fans eagerly waiting for their unveiling and release. While there are differing opinions on when this will happen, one thing is certain – Apple will not be hosting a physical event but will instead make an announcement through a press release on its Apple Newsroom website.

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), there may be a delay in the shipments of the new tablets due to supply issues with display panels. Initially, Samsung Display and LG Display were supposed to produce OLED panels for the iPad Pro, but now only Samsung Display will be supplying the 11.1-inch OLED panels due to pricing concerns.

The introduction of low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology in the 11.1-inch OLED display has caused prices to rise, making it the first tablet display with this feature. Other design enhancements like tandem stacks and glass thinning have also affected production costs.

As production ramps up in April, both Samsung Display and LG Display need to increase their output of 11.1-inch OLED panels to meet demand for the smaller variant of the iPad Pro (2024). This line will mark a historic moment as it will be the first iPads equipped with OLED screens.

To address the higher prices of OLED displays, Apple has introduced a second 12.9-inch iPad Air model as an alternative for consumers who prefer a larger tablet without the hefty price tag of the OLED iPad Pro model. DSCC predicts that LCD displays for the 12.9-inch iPad Air began shipping in December.

Despite some conflicting reports, industry experts like DSCC have a strong track record when it comes to display-related rumors. It is highly likely that the iPad Air (2024) series will include models with both 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch LCD screens, offering a variety of options for consumers.

Stay tuned for more updates on Phones Canada’s blog as we await further news on the release of these highly anticipated tablets from Apple!
