Exciting News: Google Pixel Phones Adding Satellite SOS Feature for Emergency Calls!

Google is staying true to its promise of bringing satellite support to Android 14, with recent developments hinting at an upcoming emergency SOS feature for Pixel phones. In a recent update to Google’s “Adaptive Connectivity Services” app, references to a “Satellite SOS” feature were spotted by the Google News channel on Telegram.

Key points about the Satellite SOS feature include:

– Designed to send emergency messages via satellites when cellular and WiFi networks are unavailable
– Accessible through the operating system’s Settings menu, under the “Safety and emergency” section
– Users can customize emergency contacts and set up automatic alerts in case of emergencies
– Privacy disclaimer outlines information shared with emergency services and satellite providers
– Possible partnership with Garmin for global search and rescue coverage

While the feature has not been officially announced or released yet, there is speculation that it may be Pixel-exclusive initially. Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP at Google, hinted at this feature for Android 14, suggesting a potential unveiling at a future Google event.

This new Satellite SOS feature aims to provide users with a reliable communication option during emergencies, particularly in remote areas with limited network coverage. With Apple already offering similar capabilities, users can look forward to enhanced peace of mind knowing they have access to satellite-based emergency messaging on their Pixel phones.
