iOS 18 Update: A18-series Chips to See Major Boost in Neural Engine Cores for Enhanced AI Capabilities

Apple is making strides to enhance its AI capabilities with the upcoming iOS 18, set to be unveiled at WWDC 2024 in June. The tech giant plans to upgrade the Neural Engine on its A18 and M4 chips, which will result in improved AI and machine learning features for these devices.

The A18 series chips are expected to debut with the iPhone 16 series in September. These chips are set to see a significant increase in the number of cores used in the Neural Engine, paving the way for advanced capabilities and performance enhancements.

Key points to note about Apple’s latest developments include:

– The A18 Bionic chip will power the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, while the A18 Pro will drive the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
– Both A18 chips will be manufactured by TSMC using its second-generation 3nm process node (N3E).
– Apple has kept the core count in the Neural Engine at 16 since the A14 Bionic used with the iPhone 12 series. However, there have been significant improvements in speed and performance over time.
– The amount of silicon wafers expected to be produced for TSMC’s production of 3nm chips for Apple this year is projected to rise by 50% over last year.

Overall, this development solidifies Apple’s position as a major player in advancing AI technology and machine learning capabilities. Stay tuned for more updates as iOS 18 approaches.
