Stay Safe on the Road with Android Auto: App Lock Feature Ensures Distraction-Free Driving

Introducing the latest feature from Android Auto: a solution to the “Don’t phone and drive” rule. While we wait for built-in breathalyzers in vehicles, Android Auto is stepping up to enforce safe driving practices by banning certain apps while on the road.

In the updated version 11.4 of Android Auto, users will notice a small “P” (for “Parked”) bubble in the bottom right corner of restricted apps. This feature prevents access to certain apps while the car is in motion, promoting a focus on driving without distractions.

One interesting finding shared by Tom’s Guide from German SmartDroid is that gaming and video streaming apps like GameSnacks are among those displaying the “P” icon on Android Auto. Additionally, version 11.4 now includes a text message summarization feature, allowing drivers to listen to long messages while on the go.

Messages over 40 words will be paraphrased for easier listening, while shorter messages will be read in full. The AI-powered Android Auto can also suggest quick replies and actions, such as sharing your ETA or starting a call with just a tap.

Imagine receiving a message asking, “Where are you?” while driving. Thanks to Android Auto, you can simply push a button to share your ETA without getting distracted. Stay safe on the road with Android Auto’s latest features designed to keep drivers focused and connected responsibly.
